Manual therapy builds on the foundations of physiotherapy and focusses on the fact that if there is a malfunction in the musculoskeletal system that doesn’t resolve itself, a problem in the body will occur. The manual therapist is specialized in finding the cause of the problems and possesses special manual skills to treat the problem. The manual therapist does this by looking at the body as a whole and how all of the tissues are connected and supports the patient with expert advice so that the body can recover itself again. Beside specific techniques for joints and soft tissues (muscles, joint capsule, connective tissue) the therapist also focusses on posture and movement patterns.
